MEETING @ HERITAGE CENTRE  26. 09. 2011.

Present : Dorothy,  Paddy,  Eddie plus Catherine Watson (Consultant Curator), Ken Haynes and (Part of Meeting) Ian Roberts, (Heritage Centre)

Meeting opened with a brief synopsis of the progress to date, we now have the basis for 11 panels. Catherine distributed pro forma’s of the display panels which she had prepared, these are in two formats, both equally stylish and professional, she commented that she was delighted with the material submitted to date and would be  finalizing another two ( Farm, Final Days) when she received the copy and appropriate photographs, making 13 panels in total. Photographs were required for the Stalag Luft panel, Ed thought that he might be able to obtain a CD from Colin Lawman. A discussion ensued on the subject for further panels, Catherine was keen to have some reflecting the everyday life of the school.

The work on refurbishing the railway carriages is taking longer than anticipated so it is unlikely that the display will be mounted before the Heritage Centre reopens after it’s Winter break. This gives us a bit more time to collect memorabilia for the display cases.

RE: The Chatterboxes,  Ian Roberts, a Heritage Centre committee member attended part of the meeting and explained the procedure for recording voice messages. He has the equipment and is prepared to visit folk but I don’t think he realizes how widely our members arescattered !!  The Chatterbox interviews should last a maximum of 3 minutes and need to be done on a one to one basis, over the phone doesn’t work.

Máire  (Evidently it’s pronounced Moira !) West popped in briefly, she edits the Heritage Centre newsletter/ magazine and is keen to have an article on the Brown Rigg exhibition, 500 words are required for the first week in November.

A search of the boxes of photographs and memorabilia was undertaken, it is apparent that we need more artifacts to go in the display cases.

The next meeting will be held in November, the date to be decided when we can establish people’s availability. If anyone is going away in November or has commitments already booked, please let Edward know and we will try to work out a date that is convenient for everyone. It is likely that the panels will have been completed by then and will be available for perusal. The Heritage Centre will be closed to visitors by then so we may also have to work in when it is available for the meeting.  Please confirm availability ASAP

Footnote :

To date all of the copy (Text) for the panels has been supplied by myself, I am keen that some other folk should be involved, a) Otherwise all the panels will be written in the same style, and b) because I don’t wish to appear to be hogging the limelight. Please feel free to make any input into the text for the panels that you wish.  Eddie Graham

MEETING @ HERITAGE CENTRE  22. 08. 2011.

Present : Dorothy, Edmund, Paddy, Terry, Eddie plus Catherine Watson (Consultant Curator), Terry Bragg & A.N Other (Heritage Centre)

Meeting opened with Terry Bragg giving a synopsis of the progress with the railway carriages and stating that there was the opportunity for an enhanced display area.

Catherine distributed pro forma’s of the display panels which she had prepared, she commented that she was delighted with the material submitted to date and would be  finalizing another two ( Hikes , Reunions) when she received the appropriate photographs, making 5 panels organized so far. A discussion ensued on the subject for further panels, Catherine was keen to have some reflecting the everyday life of the school.

The meeting broke off to go and inspect the railway carriages and to view the area set aside for the “Brown Rigg” display. It was noted that there was still a considerable amount of work to do to get the carriages in to a presentable state although Mr. Bragg seemed confident that they would hit their September deadline.

There was some discussion about the feasibility of contacting Newcastle Church High School who were evacuated to Brown Rigg during the war.

RE: The Chatterboxes,  Ian Roberts, a Heritage Centre committee member will be contacting us to arrange to record people’s memories for the “Chatterbox” audio presentation.

There was some discussion about providing a series of games, with a Brown Rigg theme, that visiting children could play.

A search of the boxes of photographs and memorabilia was undertaken, Edmund has a requirement for more photographs and there will be a need for additional memorabilia if we get an extra display cabinet.

It was agreed to hold another meeting, at Bellingham on 26thSeptember Commencing at 11:00am.

11th July 2011--We had our meeting with staff from the Heritage Centre.  We decided the best way forward for our display was to have 20 display boards, of which about 14 would be permanently displayed, with the others used at various times.  Also a new style "Black Talking Box" with about 15 recordings of "Stories From Brownrigg." This will have 2 handsets for visitors to choose stories and listen.  The stories need to come from YOURSELVES and more about this later.

We have already started on the design of  the display boards, but the actual design is subject to change, and has yet to be decided after probably several attempts!!!

The photos of BRS that have been donated and that I have downloaded and stored electronically, will be held on the museums computer system.  We hope at a later date to make all of them available for viewing by the general public, possibly via a computer, as they are stored at present, in year groups.
